Macca agrees Siena switch Tuesday 23 January, 2007
Massimo Maccarone is expected to sign for Siena on a free transfer after agreeing the termination of his contract with Middlesbrough.
“We have undergone negotiations with Boro for the player’s free transfer to Siena,” explained agent Paolo Fabbri to the BBC.
“There is an agreement with Siena and Maccarone could sign a three or four-year contract with them.”
The former Italian international has been out of favour at the Riverside, having scored 24 goals in 102 appearances for the club.
Siena need a replacement after selling Erjon Bogdani to Chievo last week and the decisive meeting is expected on Monday.
It is a return to the Stadio Artemio Franchi for Maccarone, who came here on loan from Boro in January 2005, netting seven goals in 17 games.
The striker originally joined Middlesbrough from Empoli in 2002 for a club record £8.15m, but less than five years later is set to move on free of charge. |
