Reggina sack Ficcadenti Thursday 1 November, 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reggina have parted company with Coach Massimo Ficcadenti after last night’s defeat against Livorno.
The ex-Verona man’s days seemed to be numbered when President Lillo Foti hinted that he couldn’t see the club moving forward with him at the helm.
When Ficcadenti didn't turn up to take training today, youth Coach Roberto Breda was left to break the news to the squad.
A 3-1 reverse against Livorno left the Calabrian minnows rock bottom and facing a bitter struggle against the drop.
Ficcadenti arrived in the summer to replace the highly successful Walter Mazzarri, but there was little to suggest he could keep the Amaranto afloat.
The young tactician’s last job ended in dismissal as he led an expectant Verona side towards relegation to Serie C.
Ficcadenti is the second man to receive his marching orders after Livorno’s Fernando Orsi won the dreaded Serie A sack race last month.
Ex-Bologna boss Renzo Ulivieri is believed to be in pole position to take the Stadio Granillo hot seat.
The respected Coach is believed to be meeting with Foti today and may return to the side he led in 1998-99 in Serie B.
Other candidates for the job are ex-Siena man Mario Beretta and veteran Nedo Sonetti.
Reggina call on Ulivieri Thursday 1 November, 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Renzo Ulivieri is the new Coach of Reggina after the dismissal of Massimo Ficcadenti this afternoon.
Reggina President Lillo Foti lost patience with Ficcadenti after last night’s defeat against Livorno and it seems that he had a replacement waiting in the wings.
While Nedo Sonetti and Mario Beretta had been linked with the post, it is believed that Ulivieri travelled to Reggio Calabria for talks today.
Ulivieri is a calcio veteran and has spent time on the bench for 18 clubs in a 31-year career.
Most recently, the 66-year-old spent two spells at Serie B outfit Bologna, but he has been without a job since leaving the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara in April.
The new man will be officially presented at 1pm tomorrow at the Sant’Agata Sports Centre. |
